September is Sepsis Awareness Month, a time to educate health care professionals and the public about this life-threatening condition. Sepsis occurs when the body’s response to an infection damages its own tissues. Almost any infection, including COVID-19, can lead to sepsis. In the latest “Plugged In to Nursing” podcast episode, Danette Culver, director, Clinical Effectiveness, and system lead for sepsis at Norton Healthcare, explains what sepsis is, why it is important for nurses to understand it and the amazing work Norton Healthcare is doing to help patients survive sepsis.
